The 11th of December 2013 Barry passed away as a result of falling from her fourth floor apartment located in the 16th district of Paris which was thought to be suicide. Her sister Charlotte Gainsbourg later disputed the claims that it was suicide by saying “I want to believe it’s an accident” however she acknowledged that it was difficult to determine whether the death of Barry was an accident or deliberate. Barry was cremated in Paris.
Barry is known for her intimate photographs of famous people. She worked frequently with her mother and sisters, and was also responsible for the album cover of Carla Bruni’s debut album Quelqu’un m’a dit.

Barry had the distinction of being the daughter of Franco-British actress the singer Jane Birkin and the composer John Barry.
